Task 1Intro and Rules
Hackfinity Battle 2025

A ruthless cyber-villain, Cipher, has stolen the Hackfinity Code, a legendary exploit capable of wiping out half the world’s digital infrastructure with a single command. The only ones standing in his way are the Cyber Avengers, an elite team of hackers with extraordinary skills.

Will they crack the impossible encryption, stop Cipher’s final payload, and restore order to cyberspace? Or will the cyber world be plunged into chaos?

The battle begins now. ⚡

Join an action-packed Capture The Flag event where you'll team up to solve thrilling puzzles, uncover secrets, and dive into an exciting storyline!

What is a CTF?

A Capture the Flag event is a competition where you and your team will have to solve cybersecurity challenges in diverse areas of knowledge. The challenges are completely practical and will allow you to put your skills to the test. Each challenge has one or more flags you'll need to retrieve to score points.

A flag is a string of text hidden in each challenge that will serve as proof that you've achieved the expected goal. Flags for this competition will follow the following format:

THM{some_text_here}

Who can Join?

This CTF is targeted at students. Your team must be made up of students only to be eligible for prizes. To verify your student status, please follow the instructions in this article.

If you are not a student, don't worry. Anyone can participate, but the leaderboard will only show verified student teams, and non-student participants won't be eligible for prizes.

Where are the challenges?

The competition will run from March 17th at 14:00 (GMT) until March 20th at 23:59 (GMT). The challenges will be made available in this room when the competition starts.

While you wait for the competition, feel free to try the challenges from our catalogue to practice!

Read the rules of the CTF!

We’d love to say that everything is permitted during your search for the Hackfinity code, but remember - truly stopping Cipher also needs not to send our world into oblivion!

To achieve this:

  1. Do not attack TryHackMe's infrastructure.
  2. Do not attack other users' machines; only use your IP and/or the target machines' IP.
  3. Don’t share flags with other teams.
  4. Don’t ask for hints during the event.
  5. Do not brute force flags on the TryHackMe platform.
  6. The maximum team size is 5.

If you have questions or need support from the Elders (THM support), please join our Discord channel and open a ticket. The full Terms and Conditions of the competition can be read here.

Before the CTF starts, you must create a TryHackMe account if you don’t have one. Head over to https://tryhackme.com/signup . You will need to go through the full onboarding—don’t worry—it takes less than a couple of minutes!

Create a team

To participate in Hackfinity Battle, you'll need to join a team of up to 5 people. You can create a team from your  account management page . Click on the “Teams tab” and then “Create a team”.

Once you have created your team, you can share the invitation link with your teammates:

Why is this important?

You can only get points on the scoreboard if you are part of a team comprised 100% of students. Even if you want to participate as a single user, you must still create a team. We recommend creating your team as soon as possible to avoid losing time during the event.

Although non-students are welcome to participate in the CTF, their team's scores will not appear on the leaderboard, and they won't be eligible for prizes.

The Final Battle: Victory of the Cyber Avengers

Today

#38

The digital battlefield trembled as Cipher prepared to unleash the final execution of the Hackfinity Code. His encrypted stronghold—an impenetrable fortress of ever-shifting firewalls and AI-driven countermeasures—loomed in the depths of cyberspace. A countdown flickered ominously: 00:00:10 remaining. But the Cyber Avengers were ready.

Void cracked Cipher's final encryption layer, uncovering a hidden backdoor. Phantom had already traced Cipher's real-world location—an abandoned data center disguised as a legitimate security firm. Specter reconstructed the deleted security logs, exposing Cipher's every move.

Cipher watched in disbelief as his systems unravelled before his eyes. His firewalls collapsed. His AI defences turned against him. His hidden servers became exposed like an open book.

"No… this isn't possible!" he snarled, hammering his keyboard in desperation. The countdown reached 00:00:01.

“Game over, Cipher,” Void said, activating the final counter-command.

The Hackfinity Code disintegrated into digital dust, its threat erased forever.  Cipher's fortress imploded, his control severed. Law enforcement swarmed his physical location, led by Phantom's intel. With one final keystroke, Cipher's reign of cyberterror ended. The Cyber Avengers had won.

With the Hackfinity Code neutralized and Cipher behind bars, the digital world breathed a sigh of relief. Governments and security agencies reinforced their cyber defences, learning from the battle. The Cyber Avengers, their mission complete, disappeared back into the shadows—ever watchful, ever ready.

As Void encrypted their final debriefing log, he grinned. "One thing's for sure—we'll always be one step ahead."

And with that, the Cyber Avengers vanished into the digital ether, leaving a legacy of vigilance and victory.
